October 8, 2015
Today was our last day of Iowa Asesssments. The students all worked hard all week! Thanks for getting them here on time and ready to show what they know!
We will begin to start recognizing the Player of the Day for First in Math, the online computer program your kids can work on at school and at home. This program is personalized to their needs, so gives them practice in skills they are weak in, but also gives them opportunities to extend their learning with other games. Remind them to get on at home!
Grades close tomorrow for the first nine weeks – report cards will be passed out at conferences. Several students have missing work – they know who they are! Ask your child if they have any missing work.
Conference Week is October 19-23. Students will be dismissed 2 hours early every day that week. I look forward to meeting with all of you to discuss your children! If you have not returned the conference form please do.
School pictures will be next Tuesday, October 13. ALL students will have their picture taken for the yearbook. If you would like to order individual pictures, please return the payment envelope that day. Payment envelopes will go home soon.
From the office: The 2015/2016 School Climate Survey in now available. Please follow the link below to complete the school climate survey via your personal computer, smartphone, or tablet. If you do not have access to the Internet, you can take the survey in the Parent Resource Room (202) during school hours or the Learning Commons during Conference week. The data collected will be part of Acworth’s School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Thank you in advance for your input. Georgia Parent Survey: http://apps.gadoe.org/schoolclimate/parents.nsf/Survey.xsp
A Note from Dr. Champion, Music Specialist:
Soprano recorders will be used in music class during the 3rd-5th grade. It is best if each student purchases his/her own personal recorder. You can find them at most of our local music stores. You can also purchase one online by visiting West Music at www.westmusic.com or J.W. Pepper at www.jwpepper.com.
Reflections entries are due Thursday, October 15. This year’s theme is “Let Your Imagination Fly.” There are six different categories you can enter. I hope to see some of your creativity!
Reminder – Science Fair projects are due by Wednesday, October 28. I hope to see some great experiments!
What we are studying:
Reading – summarizing, character traits, and main idea
Writing – writing opinion pieces
Math – multiplying decimals
Social Studies – Civil War
