January 7, 2016
Welcome back! I was glad to see everyone after the Break! We have gotten right back to work and are already busy with lots of new learning. Make sure to read at least 20 minutes every night, and get on First in Math as much as you can. The extra practice will pay off with improvements!
Report cards will be sent home tomorrow. Also in the envelope will be your report on our last SRI and SMI. Please look over everything with your child and talk about how they are doing. I am proud of all the growth I am seeing! Then come up with some strategies you can use at home to help your child in areas in which they are struggling. Please sign the signature card and return it in the envelope on Monday.
Students who turn in their signed, completed December Book It Reading Logs tomorrow will receive their coupons for a free personal pizza at Pizza Hut on Friday. We will also pass out the Book-It Reading Logs for January tomorrow. Make sure to color in your cold guy each day you read for at least 20 minutes!
Ariana and Claire will represent our class in the school Spelling Bee next Thursday. Good luck!
The 2016 Arbor Day Poster Contest is now under way! Show off your creativity with the theme, “A Tree for All Seasons.” Entry forms are in your folder. All entries are due to the media center by Friday, February 5.
There will not be school on Monday, January 18, in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
If you ordered spirit cups, these were sent home as well today!
What we are studying:
Reading – Compare and contrasting stories in the same genres on their approaches to similar themes and topics
Writing – transitional phrases
Math – geometry unit- this week quadrilaterals and a lot of vocabulary.
Social Studies – finishing up world war 1 and beginning the roaring 20’s
