January 21, 2016
Math Night will be next Thursday, January 28, 6:00 – 7:30. Come see how math is done on the classroom now! There will be activities in classes in each grade for you to try. Please return the RSVP by Monday, January 25.
Make sure to color in the cold guy on your January Book It Reading Log each day you read for at least 20 minutes!
The 2016 Arbor Day Poster Contest is now under way! Show off your creativity with the theme, “A Tree for All Seasons.” Entry forms went home last week. All entries are due to the media center by Friday, February 5.
Fifth grade will be having Market Day in March to help us understand our Economics unit. Next week I will introduce the event to the students, so they are supposed to be thinking about what their business will be. A Business Plan will go home soon for them to complete with all of the information for their business, as well as a parent signature so you also know what they are doing. The students started earning money this week to spend at Market Day. They can earn money for doing what they are supposed to do in school!
Parents our classroom is running low on tissue boxes. If you could donate any, we would greatly appreciate it!
What we are studying:
Reading – analyzing how visual and multimedia elements contribute to the meaning, beauty and tone of a text.
Writing – writing an informational paper
Math – two dimensional figures and their hierarchies. Their Unit 5 Post Test will be tomorrow. Have students use their interactive notebooks as well as the online text book to study from.
Social Studies – Great Depression, Stock Market, and the Dust Bowl
Spelling test will resume next week due to this being a shortened week!
